Tiny green pearls cascading on vines — because sometimes regular leaves are just too boring.
The String of Pearls, botanically known as Curio rowleyanus, is instantly recognizable for its tiny, round leaves that look like little green beads strung along delicate trailing vines.
Also commonly known as Senecio rowleyanus, this unique trailing succulent becomes especially beautiful as it grows, with vines spilling over the edge of shelves, hanging planters, and elevated plant stands.
Compact at the top but capable of producing long, cascading growth, String of Pearls is perfect for anyone searching for a unique hanging houseplant that adds texture and movement without taking up valuable floor space.

Difficulty: Intermediate
Pet Friendly: No — keep away from pets that may chew the foliage
Styling Tip
Give this one some height.
Place your String of Pearls in a hanging planter, on a floating shelf, bookshelf, cabinet, or tall plant stand where those vines can cascade freely.
A simple terracotta, warm white, stone, or earthy planter lets the unusual foliage become the focal point. For a layered plant display, pair it with upright or broad-leaved plants — the contrast between large foliage and those tiny green pearls makes the whole arrangement feel more intentional.
And because the vines can eventually become impressively long, this is one of those plants that gets better the more room you give it to spill.
Good to Know
String of Pearls may be a succulent, but its watering routine requires a little more finesse than “forget about it for a month.”
Its fleshy leaves store moisture, so constantly wet soil can quickly lead to root rot. Allow much of the potting mix to dry before watering again, then water thoroughly and let excess moisture drain away.
Bright indirect light is especially important. Too little light can lead to sparse, stretched growth, while harsh direct sunlight can scorch the foliage.
If the top of your plant begins looking thin while the vines continue growing long, make sure light is reaching the crown of the plant — not just the hanging vines.
String of Pearls is also easy to propagate from healthy stem cuttings. Lay sections of vine across fresh potting mix with several nodes touching the soil, and they can develop roots to create a fuller plant.
You may see this plant labeled String of Pearls, Curio rowleyanus, Senecio rowleyanus, String of Beads, or Bead Plant.
If you're searching for a trailing succulent with unique bead-shaped foliage, String of Pearls brings cascading growth, sculptural texture, and plenty of personality to hanging planters, shelves, and bright indoor spaces.
